The Cage

The cage watched as the birds changed over time

Each one bolder than the last

They would fly in willingly, admiring the cage

And there they would die

Peacefully, or in a fit of rage

Lately they would struggle,

Rattle the cage in their fury

But they would always give up,

Sooner or later

I have seen the cage and it watches me too

It holds temptations wrapped in blue

But here we are the cage and I,

We are one but we do not know

Neither does the bird who’s about to die
