The Birds

A solitary tree stands in the garden,
Leaves lie scattered on the ground
The birds break out into a song
And two lovers approach the sound
They kiss beneath the boughs
Hoping they were free,
Then they hang themselves
From the highest branch
Of the old and dying tree
The birds stop singing,
Silence reigns supreme
Slowly they approach the bodies,
Eating at their dream
