Routine

The rain has left me dry
In the streets of this heartless city
Out of the concrete jungle the predators emerge
Their prey awaits willingly in the light
Eager to surrender, eager to please
Masked people walk the streets,
Their head down,
Buying hypocrisy laced with words
They get high on their daily chores,
Their false sense of purpose,
And the warm body at night
The occasional moment of epiphany arrives
Only to drown in the amber of their glasses
