Superficial

What do you mean you love the ocean?
Obviously you love it’s pretty blue surface
And the way it sparkles in the sunlight
Not the never-ending expanse of water
That makes your problems seem so trivial
Or the overwhelming depths
Where the sound of nothingness
Presses against you

You love the ocean you say,
Yet you flinch
When the mighty surge crashes against the shore
You admire the surface of the water,
Yet you’re so very afraid of drowning
