A rain-soaked reverie

You stand there counting the raindrops
Waiting for the lightning to strike
To escape into nothingness,
And build a castle there
To run through the lonely streets of time,
Only to find freedom as a starving child,
Tightrope walking since the beginning of yesterday
You wish they would see through your eyes,
Sometimes you wish they were you
And though the rain is comforting,
And the water feels warm,
Sometimes you wish
You could paint the sky blue
