Choices

We were given this night,
These empty streets and this artificial light
The unfamiliar faces and the subhuman traces,
So we could remind ourselves of our own mortality
We didn’t need to connect or to protect,
To subdue or to manipulate
We were asked to choose between ignorance and isolation,
Between happiness and enlightenment,
Between a laughter and a smile
But we fell in love with uncertainty;
And thus became blind
