The promise of light

It’s time to rattle the cage again
Ignore the urge to belong
A pull from the left,
A pull from the right,
Tempting is the promise of light
It makes me put my things in tiny boxes
My thoughts,
My skin,
My identity
I see the cracks on the surface
But I do not bother to peek inside
Lost to death,
Lost to pride,
They won’t rise again from the sea
But I can burn the boxes
I can burn them all
Satisfying my hunger for light
